About Uniquely Western
I started Uniquely Western two years ago when I realized I 'retired' too early. It seemed like a good idea to combine my love of photography with the soothing effect "making things" has always brought, and layer those over my lifelong fascination with all things western, old and new. All the products, designs and most of the images you see here are the result. In the past two years, products have been added, deleted and modified to reach the product assortment available today. Undoubtably the refinement process will continue, which is part of the fun.
Growing up on a farm in the midwest around all matter of livestock, with a father who loved western movies definitely had an impact. Like many midwestern families, we headed west in the summer between the summer and fall harvests to savor the cool air in the Rocky Mountains, the wildlife and scenery of the National Parks, generally to borrow the wide open spaces, even if for only a few days. Many of the images I've attempted to capture and share here invoke my memories of those trips. While we didn't live the western lifestyle, at least two of us always really wanted to and we felt fortunate to get to 'borrow' it. While having horses and local rodeos helped, to my idealistic young ears farming never sounded as adventurous as ranching.
While I spent my 'professional career' far from my roots and in the big city, now I'm lucky enough to live in the real west, making up for lost time. With Uniquely Western products, anyone can bring a bit of the west into their home.
I've also tried to make customer choice a key differentiator. The customer can choose the product and then choose the image, or vice versa, for truly unique gifts and home decor items. Going one step further, you can submit your own images - taking custom to the next level.
All product designs are original and every item is either originally handcrafted or finished in the US using high quality materials and processes. I'm finally using my Home Ec degree after all these years!
